Mona Lisa, The Anthem, is one of the very few current releases that had everybody singing along. Released in the year 2000, I guess that was the time the young Kenyans were craving for more of the rap, Ragga and Hip Hop the Kenyan way.

If you had the Talent the audience were hungry for your style of Hip Hop.

Radio and Club DJ’s were already in it, so with the unique intro Mona Lisa had, the Deux Vultures could never get wrong.

The dynamic duo, I say dynamic as they were more than a ‘Live’ Dynomite on Stage, of Mustapha Daudi and Thomas Gonzanga, were born and brought up in a close neighbourhood in Kinondoni, Daressalaam, Tanzania  and came to Kenya to study a bridging course so as to pursue further Education in the U.S. Little did they know that they would team up and blossom into one of the most adored group in East Africa.

Their video clip was the in thing on T.V and the instant success of Mona Lisa put the Duo on the charts and on par with the then celebrity Hip Hop Stars like Vinni Banton & Mr Googz, Redsan and others.

The lyrics of the song sing praise of the African Woman, her beauty and elegance. For those lovers of Music, you will recall ‘African Woman’ by the Great Fela Kuti, father of current African Superstar ‘Femi Kuti’.

Deux Vultures began their music career at the famous Florida 2000, in Nairobi and like many hip Hop Artistes of their time they initially released their hit with the Ogopa Deejays group and later moved on.

In part two of our profile we will be looking deep in their life today and their view on Kenya Rap, Ragga and Hip Hop Stars.
